I spoke before about using different
pieces of scrap wood as a starting
point. With these two drawings I
feel like I was able to break into a
new point of view.

After working on many more studies, trying to develop a consistent train of thought, I decided to just jump on in and create a couple of big pieces, hoping that if I took the "Just do it" approach things would sort themselves out. Although I love these two paintings, I still feel that I need some more time at the sketchpad to work out some kinks. I seem to have gravitated towards a landscape theme, which is both unexpected and strangely familiar.

I was focused on the world of crows;

their long lineage, the many roles they 

play in different types of religions and

folklore, as well as their physical beauty.

I did this small series of three in my studies,

and ever since, they seem to follow me 

around and pop in and 

out of future works.

In these few pieces I was working on
 wood panels, or discarded wood
 pieces, using the surface as part of
the image. I was trying to represent
the effect sunlight has when it passes
 between tree branches.

Entering into foreign territory can 
be an exciting experience and this
world of blogging is definitely new

to me. I'm a student at NSCAD 
University and am finding myself
very near graduation. This can be
a little unnerving, because I am used 
to a constant flow of criticism and 
opinions of my work, from students, 
faculty and friends. I am starting 
this blog as a means to post pictures 
of my new work and hopefully have 
some interest and responses from you.

I have some documenting work to 
do on my most recent work, so I'll 
start this new post with introducing 
you with some of my older pieces.
